The latest incarnation of the popular game show The Newlywed Game is about to go a little gay. Star Trek actor George Takei and his hubby, Brad Altman, have been invited onto the show. The two will join three other recently married couples to answer questions about their partner to determine who knows each other best.
Of course, Takei and Altman may have a bit of an advantage. Although the two only got married a year ago in California, they have been together 22 years.
Takei said: "What we want is to display the normality and the joy of having a happy union. To be included in something we never felt we'd be included in is very satisfying."
Kelly Goode, the programming chief of host channel GSN said the shows only stipulation was that the couples who appear must be in a legally recognized marriage.
Host Carnie Wilson argued that having a gay couple was not a political statement. "To me, this is not anything political," she said. "This show has always been about couples and how well they know each other."
