Dot-xxx decision delayed

Implementation of the controversial dot-xxx Top-Level Domain (TLD) has been postponed until "a future date" according to the  Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the nonprofit international body that oversees the domain name system.

Dot-xxx has come under fire from both the adult Internet industry and conservative groups and governments. Conservatives fear that dot-xxx will be yet another avenue for porn merchants to distribute their wares. The adult industry, which doesn't want to be corralled into a virtual porn ghetto, says dot-xxx is simply not necessary and will do nothing to "protect children"  from  exposure to Internet porn, the purported reason for the TLD.

The strongest voice in support of dot-xxx is ICM Registry, the private company that stands to make a killing by charging adult companies $75 a year for XXX domain names. ICANN and ICM are negotiating changes as to how the TLD would be administered.
