A former porn star is running for mayor

Hector de Silva left porn back in 2018, hoping for a quieter life in Spain. He relocated to the small town of Carcelén -- population 652 -- where he worked as a firefighter and then a farmer.

And now, de Silva (whose real name is Antonio Moreno), is running to become the town's mayor.

He isn't hiding from his past in porn, explaining that "it is a stage in my life that I don't regret because I learned a lot."

In an interesting twist, he is representing the Spanish People’s Party (PP), a conservative, Christian democratic party that fought the introduction of same-sex marriage in the country several years ago.

"When the PP came to me with the suggestion [I run under their banner] I agreed, but I want to put together my own team for the campaign and chose people regardless of their political beliefs," de Silva claimed. "By creating a group who are not worried about politics, we will be able to carry out projects for the people."

He is hoping to take down the incumbent, María Dolores Gómez Piqueras, who has been mayor since 2011.
