Apparently there are several sex scenes in the upcoming gay romantic comedy Bros, starring Luke Macfarlane and Billy Eichner. In the movie, Macfarlane plays a “gay Tom Brady” named Aaron who becomes romantically involved with Bobby Lieber (played by Eichner), a semi-famous person with an “eclectic portfolio of media-centric jobs”.
Because sex scenes are handled with a lot more care than they used to be, production companies go out of their way to make sure actors are comfortable. Sets include as small a crew as possible to shoot the scene, and a professional is on hand to make sure all those involved are comfortable.
Variety asked Macfarlane about his experience on Bros.
“Nowadays, there’s always an intimacy coordinator, so that’s really interesting," he said. "I think, specifically, we had an LGBT coordinator so they were familiar with language that might be a little bit different.
“It’s like any scene with any actor, you figure it out with your scene partner; what you’re going to be comfortable with, and I’ve always been really comfortable with Billy. Comedy is funny that way, because you want to push it a little bit.”
And though Macfarlane was open to most of the intimate action laid out in the script, he opted out of one scene.
“I think there was a moment when [Eichner] was like, ‘Shall we spit on each other?’ and I was like, ‘Nope, nope,'” he shared. “So, that was something I decided.”
Spit-fetishists might be disappointed, but the movie looks like a lot of fun. It comes out September 30, 2022.
