Faith No More keyboardist Roddy Bottum and his boyfriend Joey Holman are making beautiful music together. Both musicians, struggling through lockdown, decided that it was a good time to try working together.
Under the name Man on Man, they are getting ready to release their self-titled first album on May 7th.
"People have never seen two gay guys who are a couple making the kind of music we’re making, writing about what we’re writing about, displaying it in the way we’re displaying it,” Holman explained.
He added that the music they've released so far has been popular in the queer community, saying: “(Fans) were like, ‘Thank you, I see myself in this. This is me.’ Which is so cool! "
Their latest release is “It’s So Fun (to Be Gay)." The accompanying video is a mix of homemade videos filled with everyone from drag queens to internet celebrities like comedian Drew Droege and rapper Big Dipper.
In fact, the whole process as been very DIY (do it yourself).
“Not to say that we wouldn’t love someone to engineer and do a lot of the work for us," Holman admitted. "But I had one electric guitar, one acoustic guitar; we had an upright piano; we had one microphone for every single thing we did. When you go to a studio, there’s like 40 microphones. We did it all ourselves with just one. And: Boom, bitch."
