Grindr moving into content creation

GrindrWith all the controversy surrounding Grindr in the past year -- from selling user info to being bought by straight owners -- the company decided the best use of its time was creating streaming content. Huh?

Yes, Grindr is creating an original series called Bridesman, about a man who undermines his best friend's wedding. The show was created by John Onieal, and will come out in six, 10-minute episodes.

“We’re thrilled to partner with John on Grindr’s first foray into long-form content,” said Alex Black, Grindr’s Director of Marketing. “Bridesman is tailor-made for the Grindr community -- it’s smart, queer, campy, and features sharp commentary on gay dating, heteronormative standards, and Grindr itself. We are so proud to be showcasing some of the finest talent in the queer community as we continue to find new and creative ways to connect our users.”

"It's so exciting to create something as joyous as it is gay. We're grateful that this talented team and Grindr are giving this project life," added Onieal. "Finally we get to center the narrative on that gay in the bridal party."

Liva Pierce, Calvin Seabrooks and Benito Skinner will appear in the show, alongside pop star Kim Petra.

Pre-production was halted in 2020 due to COVID-19, but production should pick up this March. It will be distributed through YouTube and on Grindr, with a Fall 2021 launch.

We'd rather see them spend their money on making the dating app safer, but we're funny that way.
