2021 is getting off to a terrible start for one gay porn star; Matthew Camp lost his home to a fire, and it appears to be the work of an arsonist.
Last week, Camp's Poughkeepsie, New York home burned to the ground. Security cameras caught someone pouring gasoline on the porch, which resulted in an explosion. Asleep in the house when it started, Camp and his roommate were able to safely make their escape.
A GoFundMe was created to raise money to help Camp out.
The GoFundMe page states: “Outside of his work as a queer content creator, activist, and artist, Matt has spent years empowering and supporting sex workers, the queer community, and outsiders in need. We’re asking for help to give Matt the chance to rebuild his life and replace some of his belongings as he attempts to recover from this horrendous event.”
"An arsonist poured gasoline on the front porch of my home and set it on fire in an apparent hate crime," Camp wrote on Instagram. "I was asleep inside. I am alive to face this person one day but everything I have ever owned is gone. Share this story because queer people are still under attack all over the world. Our voices will not be silenced."
The house, itself, has an interesting past. It once belonged to Joe “Netherworld” Mendillo, a high-ranking Church of Satan member, who passed away last year. The house was often referred to as the “House of Netherworld” or “Halloween House”.
Police are continuing to investigate.
