Saying "YMCA" is about gay sex might get you sued

The Village People

Victor Willis. the heterosexual frontman for the Village People, is tired of people claiming the hit single "YMCA" is about illicit gay sex; he threatened to sue anyone who suggests it is.

“I will sue the next media organization, or anyone else, that falsely suggests Y.M.C.A. is somehow about illicit gay sex,” Willis, who plays the cop, declared on Facebook. He added: “Get your mind out of the gutter, please!”

Willis said he wrote the song, explaining it was really just about his time as a young man in an urban neighborhood hanging out with his friends.

“’You can hang out with all the boys’ was a term about me and my friends playing basketball at The Y,” he said.

That said, Willis says he welcomes the gay community and its embracing of the song.

“I’m happy the gay community adopted it as their anthem, I have no qualms with that,” he said in the statement.
