Delta promises to restore gay scenes cut from movies

BooksmartDelta Air Lines said it isn't responsible for cutting same-sex romancing from the movies it shows during flights.

It was accused of giving passengers "sanitized" versions of movies like Book Smart and the Elton John biopic Rocketman.

Booksmart director Olivia Wilde called the censorship “batshit insane."

Delta, however, said it has nothing against sharing the content. It blamed a third-party for providing edited versions of the films. It has requested the same-sex love scenes be returned to the videos it shows.

“We are immediately putting a new process in place for managing content available through Delta’s in-flight entertainment," a spokesperson explained. “Studios often provide videos in two forms: a theatrical, original version and an edited version. We selected the edited version and now realise content well within our guidelines was unnecessarily excluded from both films.

“We are working to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

The company later added: “Delta’s content parameters do not in any way ask for the removal of homosexual content from the film. “We value diversity and inclusion as core to our culture and our mission and will review our processes to ensure edited video content doesn’t conflict with these values.”

Delta's new slogan? "Fly the gay-friendly skies!"
