Believe it or not, Pride month is just around the corner. With that in mind, YouTube is hoping to do its part to celebrate with the LGBT community in June with the release of three original documentary films.
State of Pride, available from June 5 to 30, follows Raymond Braun -- who previously led YouTube’s LGBT outreach efforts -- as he travels to Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Tuscaloosa, Ala., where he interviews LGBT youth 50 years after the gay movement’s uprising at Stonewall Inn in New York City.
“People have been doing this for a long time,” singer Troye Sivan says in the film, referring to the community’s fight for civil rights. “We owe it to our elders that we get to be here today.”
Stonewall Outloud is based on the 1989 public-radio documentary Remembering Stonewall. The YouTube documentary will mix the original audio recording with contemporary voices in the LGBT community. It will premiere on June 26.
“We believe we stand on the shoulders of our elders. Without their bravery and sacrifice, we would not have the freedoms we enjoy today,” Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey, the directors and producers of the film, said in a statement. “In Stonewall Outloud it’s our intention for their voices to live on, so that we do not take what they sacrificed for granted and so that we continue to fight for the freedom and dignity of LGBTQ+ people all over the world.”
And finally, from June 5 to 30, This Is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous will be free (it is currently available on YouTube Premium). The documentary was directed by two-time Oscar winner Barbara Kopple, and explores how Gigi Lazzarato came out as trans to her millions of YouTube followers.
Finally something to check out when you need a small break from porn!
