Netflix planning comedy series about gay man with cerebral palsy

Ryan O’ConnellJim Parsons may be best known for his role as Sheldon on the hit TV series Big Bang Series, but he's also a very active producer.

He's working on a sitcom for NBC called Inn Crowd, which is about gay couple trying to run a successful inn in a small town.

And Netflix has revealed that Parsons is also producing a new series for the streaming site called Special. The show is based on Ryan O’Connell’s part-memoir, part-manifesto I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves. In the book O'Connell, a gay man with mild cerebral palsy, pretends he is actually an accident victim and finally go after the life he wants.

O’Connell will write, produce and star in series. Jessica Hecht, Punam Patel, Marla Mindelle, Augustus Prew, and Patrick Fabian will also appear in the show.

"Special comes out April 12th on Netflix," O'Connell tweeted. "Critics are already calling it 'gay' and 'disabled' so you know it must be good!"
