This past weekend was a big one for moviegoers. They had a choice between the action packed Venom starring Tom Hardy and the romantic remake of A Star Is Born starring Bradley Cooper (with, of course, Lady Gaga).
Venom takes place in the universe of Spiderman and the Avengers. Hardy plays a journalist who is "infected" by a symbiote, a strange alien that attaches itself to a host and gives it amazing abilities (as long as said host doesn't die in the process). The movie was getting bad reviews before its official release, but some of them were apparently being sent out by Lady Gaga fans hoping to hobble the competition.
The first A Star is Born dates back to 1937. It was remade in 1954, starring Judy Garland and James Mason; and again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. The 2018 release was produced by Cooper, and follows Gaga's character's transition from a shy but talented singer/songwriter into a superstar.
In the box office, Venom blew A Star is Born out of the water. The former took in $80 million while the latter managed a still respectable $42.6 million.
But who cares? What really matters is which male lead is hotter!
