New film explores the life of gay porn star Jonathan Agassi

Jonathan Agassi

Porn star Jonathan Agassi is now the feature of a new documentary.

Jonathan Agassi Saved My Life, which examines the Israeli-born star's professional and personal life, premiered last week at the Jerusalem Film Festival. Tomer and Barak Heymann, the brothers who created the film, were able to secure an international sales deal from Vienna-based sales agent Autolook Filmsales following the festival.

According to producers, the film chronicles Agassi's "journey from being an effeminate young boy experiencing a tough childhood in a Tel Aviv suburb, through his rise to becoming a global figure in the sex industry."

Much of the film deals with his tumultuous relationship with his mother. Autolook explained the doc is a “complex Oedipus-like family story that will speak to a global audience.”

Agassi agreed to do the film but only if Tomer could convince his mother to appear in it as well.

“He gave me his mother’s number and we met for a coffee. It took me time to convince her but we built trust over weeks and months and eventually she told me she trusted me to do the film,” Tomer said.

There will be two versions of the documentary released for distribution. One will include examples of Agassi's x-rated work, while the other will not include images of graphic sex.
