Sir Elton John is calling it quits

Elton John is retiring from touring

Music legend Sir Elton John has revealed that it is time to retire, and he wants to do it in style. He will bid adieu to his fans following one last tour which he is calling Farewell Yellow Brick Road.

Elton shared the news with Anderson Cooper through a special YouTube streaming event yesterday. Elton said the main reason for his decision was that he wanted to spend more time with his husband, David Furnish, and their two children.

“My priorities now are my children, and my husband, and my family…the time is right to say thank you to all my fans around the world, globally, and then to say goodbye,” he shared.

However, his family will have to wait a whopping three years before they get to see him full time, as that's how long the farewell tour will take.

"It’s a way of saying thank you and it’s a way of going out with a bang," Elton said. "I don’t want to go out with a whimper, I want to go out with a big bang. I want to leave people thinking, I saw the last tour and it was fantastic."

This doesn't mean Elton is done with making music. He promised that he is far from being spent creatively.

“I’m not stopping music,” he said. “I will hopefully be making more records, writing more music. Mostly I’ll be taking my kids to soccer games. But I’ll be creative, hopefully, until the day I die.”

Tickets for the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour go on sale on February 2nd and will sell out fast. And if you get tickets, you are sure to have someone dancing in front of you and blocking your view, while three drunks behind you sing off-key to every single song at the top of their lungs. We'll wait for the concert DVD.
