Zeke Thomas, a DJ and music producer, was raped in 2016 by a man he met through Grindr. He said the assault was brutal, and it left him unable to cope for many months.
“My ass was destroyed. Destroyed. I’m bleeding,” Thomas revealed. “And I’m just like -- terrified. I can’t move. I didn’t move from my apartment for two days. I didn’t move. I didn’t talk to anybody. I froze.”
He said he turned to alcohol and drugs in an attempt to deal with the trauma. Therapy, and a return to music, helped him come to terms with his experience, and he is now able to speak out openly about it.
He also wrote the track, “Dealin’ With It,” as part of his healing.
He was named the first male ambassador for the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) in support of April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month. He has promised to donate all proceeds from his new single to NSVRC and GLAAD, and hopes to help erase some of the stigma for male victims of sexual assault.
