As summer slips by, and fall looms ever closer, we are getting a better idea of what to expect from network TV's upcoming season.
One series many people have an eye on is Will & Grace.
NBC announced this week that even though the new season has yet to air, Will & Grace has been renewed for a second season. That means we'll get 16 new episodes starting this fall, and in 2018 we'll see another 13.
When the series ended back in 2006, Will and Grace had become estranged. They both moved on with their lives, but did so without their best friend at their side. They run into each other several years later while getting their own kids, now young adults, settled into college.
Well, you can forget all that! The show will start off in present time, with the characters of Will and Grace and Jack and Karen all having grown older (though not wiser) as friends. Those kids? They were never born.
“We spent most of our time trying to figure out what would be the way to make the show the best version of itself coming back after 11 years,” executive producer and creator Max Mutchnick explained. “That finale really caused us a lot of grief. You write a finale because a show is over. You never think that it’s coming back again.”
Co-creator and executive producer David Kohan added: “When the decision was made to bring the series back, we were like, ‘Well, we left them with kids, right? And if they have children, then it has to be about them being parents, ’cause presumably it would be a priority in their lives. And if it wasn’t a priority in their lives, then they’re still parents, they’re just bad parents, right?’ We frankly did not want to see them being either good parents or bad parents. We wanted them to be Will and Grace.”
One character not returning to the show is everyone's favorite mouthy maid, Rosario.
Producers wanted her back, but the actress who played her, Shelley Morrison, said no. She is no longer acting.
"Shelley has decided to retire," Mutchnick said. "It was with a heavy heart that she gave us that information and that we received it, but it is the way that it goes. It is a choice that she has made. We really wanted Shelley to be a part of this series, so we find ourselves having to figure that out moving forward. It was not an easy decision to make, but it's one that she made."
Some people could care less about seeing these four again, but we're super excited!
