Gay actor and singer Jussie Smollet, who plays Jamal, the gay son on TV's Empire, has got a thing or two to say about the current state of world political affairs. In this evocative self-directed music video he covers a range of human rights issues that have come to the fore with the sweep of populist leaders dangerously catering to an "us versus them" world view.

While it is a dark vision, at least it ends on a note of hope.
