Yesterday, Australian Police raided the home of Richard Wolstencroft. They were looking for a copy of the banned independent film, 'LA Zombie.' The reason: the Bruce LaBruce movie, depicting lots of blood, gore and hardcore zombie sex is prohibited for public exhibition in the country.
On August 29 Wolstencroft shared the video with about 200 people as part of the Melbourne Underground Film Festival (MUFF). He announced his plans two weeks before the event.
"If the police turn up and physically stop me, what can I do?," Wolstencroft said before the screening. "But they really hate coming to this sort of thing, they're embarrassed."
As he predicted, they didn't show. However, he wasn't expecting them to visit a couple months later. They came with a warrant to search his house and seize any videos. However, he claimed he had destroyed the one copy he ever had of the film.
"I've never been charged with so much as jay-walking," Wolstencroft said after today's visit. "I find the situation that a little festival is being pursued in this way quite distressing and depressing."
It could be worse. It could have been zombie police.
