"The Real O’Neals" renewed for another season

There's some bad news for members of the Catholic League: the sitcom The Real O'Neals has been renewed.

The show follows a Catholic family with a out and proud gay son. It was initially supposed to borrow heavily from sex columnist Dan Savage's life, but Savage said the show is no longer autobiographical.

Of course, with a gay positive point of view and with Savage as one of the show's executive producers, the Christian right has gone nuts that the series is even allowed to air. Bill Donohue, head of the Catholic League, even took out a full-page New York Times ad which compared Dan Savage to David Duke! He also called on advertisers to drop the show.

The American Family Association and the Family Research Council also called for a boycott and started a petition to prevent the series from airing.

Well, it was all a waste of time and money and resources because The Real O'Neals got the greenlight this week for a second season.

So you can suck it, Donohue!
