Bloomingdale's accused of making date-rapey Christmas ad

High-end retailer Bloomingdale's did not get the reaction it expected when it released an ad that read: "Spike your best friend’s eggnog when they’re not looking," and included a man leering at his oblivious female friend.

Twitter exploded with people calling out the store for printing what gave many a "date rape" vibe.

"Or just don't be a creep," tweeted one person. "When did date rape become a tool to advertise Christmas?"

Tweeted another: "That Bloomingdale's ad is horrific. How was that ever approved let alone thought of as a good idea?! Despicable."

Bloomingdale's apologized, releasing the following: “In reflection of recent feedback, the copy we used in our recent catalog was inappropriate and in poor taste. Bloomingdale’s sincerely apologizes for this error in judgment."

Ah, nothing says you're truly sorry than a 27 word tweet. Classy.
