And it's Jeffrey Tambor for the (Emmy) win

Jeffery Tambor Emmy winDuring Sunday night's Emmy Awards, Jeffrey Tambor took the honor for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Maura Pfefferman - a transgender woman who comes out to her family late in life - in the series Transparent.

“I’d like to thank Jill Soloway for giving me the privilege and responsibility [of the role]," Tambor said in his acceptance speech. “I’d like to thank this gorgeous cast; everywhere you rest your eye there’s genius.”

He also dedicated his win to the transgender community. “Thank you for your patience,” he said. “Thank you for your courage, thank you for your stories, thank you for letting us be part of the change.”

Transparent was created by Amazon Studios, and follows the ups and downs of a retired political science college professor who finally opens up to her family about always identifying as a woman. The series also explores the tribulations of Maura's three spoiled, dysfunctional adult children.

Tambor also won a Golden Globe and a Critics' Choice Television Award for the role earlier this year. The show itself has picked up several more awards, including the five Emmys it just took home.

While backstage, Tambor spoke out about how much responsibility he feels about his role, because “lives are at stake… with real humor, you can kill prejudice and keep it far away… I’m not bashful about holding this (Emmy statuette) up because this is bigger than me.”

This is a great moment not only for a talented actor, but also for a community that is starting to be treated with the respect it deserves.
