Tyler, The Creator banned from UK

tyler the creatorTyler, The Creator has been forced to cancel all of his upcoming concerts in the UK, and won't be able to perform anytime soon.

The 24 year-old rapper used the word "faggot" and similar words a total of 213 times on his 2011 album Goblin. Because of this, he has been banned from entering the UK for up to five years.

"Coming to the UK is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to respect our shared values," said a spokesperson for the U.K. Home Office. "The Home Secretary has the power to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good or if their exclusion is justified on public policy grounds."

His manager, Christian Clancy, said that he received a note from the UK government stating that his client's music "encourages violence and intolerance of homosexuality."

Clancy said he was completely surprised by the ban. "Can you imagine being beholden to things you said when you were 18? Tyler has been to the UK over 20 [times] in the last 5 years without incident [for shows, in stores, and meet and greets]," he wrote on Tumblr.

Clancy acknowledged that the words made him "cringe" but said the bigger issue was one of free speech. He said Tyler had grown a lot since 2011 and his work reflected that growth.

"What I do know is Tyler is part of an argument that is counter to who he has become. How do you punish someone for growing up?"

Tyler had a similar issue with Australia; he was banned from entering that country last month because his lyrics were believed to promote violence against women.
