Rentboy.com offering a scholarship to one lucky escort

Gay escort site Rentboy.com has announced its "Cash4Class" scholarship contest, offering a $1,500 prize to a current male student who also does sex work (including porn, escorting or erotic dancing).

The catch: the student must submit an essay or video on “Why going to school is a part of achieving my dream.”

“Everyone deserves a chance at the American dream,” said Hawk Kinkaid, COO of Rentboy.com. “Today’s escorts and porn stars may become tomorrow’s programmers, lawyers and innovators.

“But this isn’t about the adult industry educating its own; ... large numbers of students are already turning to sex work to help pay for tuition, room and board, and long-term student loan bills.”

Submissions must be received by Sept. 15, and all entrants have been promised one free month for a Rentboy ad.

The winner will be determined by porn star Colby Keller.

“Knowledge really is power,” Keller said. “There are many people out there in the world who want to keep that power from [sex workers]. There’s no better tool we have to fight unfair prejudices than with a well worked-out noggin.”

Sadly, with today's crazy costs for post-secondary education, $1500 won't go a long way ... but every little bit helps.
