'Drag Race' apologizes for 'she-male' segment

The producers of Logo's RuPaul's Drag Race are facing criticism that they are insensitive to the trans community.

The issue surfaced when, during a recent episode, contestants were asked to determine if someone was a 'female' or 'she-male' in a series of photos.

'She-male' is a no-no term. It is listed by GLAAD because it 'dehumanize[s] transgender people and should not be used.'

The producers - RuPaul Charles, Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell, Steven Corfe, and Mandy Salangsang - released a joint statement. "We delight in celebrating every color in the LGBT rainbow," they said. "When it comes to the movement of our trans sisters and trans brothers, we are newly sensitized and more committed than ever to help spread love, acceptance and understanding."

Logo released a statement of its own: "We have heard the concerns around this segment. ... We are committed to sharing a diverse range of  trans stories across all of our screens and look forward to featuring positive and groundbreaking stories of trans people in the future"

So no more she-male talk!
