Censorship claim bogus, say book stores

Representatives from both Barnes & Noble and Borders are denying reports they asked that the cover of a fashion magazine be censored. Dossier Journal had claimed that the latest issue of the magazine, featuring an androgynous male cover model resulted in requests from both chains to provide the issue in opaque plastic coverings.

The issue was that Andrej Pelic, who appeared shirtless, looked too much like a woman.

“At no time did Borders request opaque polybags for this issue of Dossier Magazine,” Stephanie Laco, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, said.

A spokeswoman for Barnes & Noble added that "there was absolutely no conflict."

Elle Magazine intially broke the story, recently updating it to claim that the two book chains changed their minds about the censorship after a backlash started brewing. Reps for Borders and Barnes & Noble deny this.
