Kenyan Prime Minister: Arrest the gays!

Prime Minister Raila OdingaHoping to beat Uganda as the most anti-gay African state, Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga urged that all homosexuals in his country should be arrested.

"Any man found engaging in sexual activities with another man should be arrested," Odinga said at a rally on Sunday. "Even women found engaging in sexual activities will be arrested."

He argued that with a 50/50 balance between male and female Kenyans, there was no need for anyone to go gay.

"This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in this country. Men or women found engaging in those acts deserve to be arrested and will be arrested," Odinga said.

His country recently adopted a new constitution that some claimed would open the way to tolerance of homosexuals. Odinga disagreed. "Those were lies from leaders who wanted to confuse Kenyans to reject the new law, the Constitution is very clear on that matter. It does not state anywhere that same sex marriage is legal in Kenya," he said.

According to the ILGA's 2010 "Report on State Sponsored Homophobia," there are still 76 countries in the world where homosexual acts are classified as criminal offenses.  We've got a long way to go.
