Porn blamed for wayward priests

The PopeThe Catholic Church has been rocked by sex abuse scandals for years now, with the current Pope facing serious questions about his own unwillingness to see priests properly prosecuted for their indiscretions.

Rather than apologizing, the Church continues to place blame on anything save itself. Roman Catholic Bishop Felipe Arizmendi from Mexico took aim at eroticism on television and Internet pornography.

"With so much invasion of eroticism, sometimes it's not easy to stay celibate or to respect children,"  Arizmendi said at an annual meeting of Mexican bishops. "If on television and on the Internet and in so many media outlets there is pornography, it is very difficult to stay pure and chaste.

"Obviously when there is generalized sexual freedom it's more likely there could be cases of pedophilia," he added.

These comments follow claims from the Vatican's secretary of state, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, who said priest pedophilia was linked to homosexuality not celibacy. Apparently, Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness is more of a suggestion than a Commandment.

And the Church wonders why it's membership is on the decline. Hmmmm.
