Apple's next big release: the iPrude

Apple bans more apps for being too sexyApple has always had a tight grip on the content it allows on its iPhone and iTouch in the form of apps. And it has now purged thousands of supposedly risqué iPhone applications from its online App Store hoping to completely sanitize its inventory before the iPad tablets are available across the US.

Since porn and adult content apps were already banned, there was nothing explicit to purge. However, now even women in bikinis and men exposing muscled chests have been given the boot. The official company line: soft-core porn apps were receiving complaints from parents.

Dennis Bell from Athletic Model Guild said both the AMG Brasil Boys and AMG Beefcake apps were part of the purge. The letter he received from Apple stated “We have recently received numerous complaints from our customers about this type of content and have changed our guidelines appropriately. We have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes your application.”

We have to wonder if Apple will allow electronic books containing racy descriptions to be downloaded on the much ballyhooed iPad. When will people say enough is enough?
