Porn stars go to college

Nicco Sky, Wolf Hudson and Reese Rideout at a discussion on 'Gay for Pay'Last Thursday, the University of Southern California hosted an interesting panel discussion as part of its 'Five Days of Going Both Ways' bisexuality-awareness week. The forum looked at the whole issue of ‘Gay for Pay’ within the porn Industry, and featured actors Nicco Sky, Wolf Hudson and Reese Rideout, as well as producers Randy Blue and Kim Kyser.

Blue felt it was important to point out that anyone performing, whether they identify as straight or gay, is never forced to do anything they don't want to do. “If it’s not your thing, it doesn’t make good porn,” he said. “There are a lot of desperate people out there who will do literally anything for quick money. That’s not what we do here … Maybe one out of 100 guys backs out after we hire them. Most people want to do what they’re doing.”

And Rideout added that even though his personal relationships are straight, working in gay porn just makes more sense to him. “It’s actually a more comfortable setting," he admitted. "You’re treated more like an actor and less like a prop,” he said.

The discussion also focused on the industry in general, from issues of safer sex - which Blue pointed out was at each director's discretion - to self-esteem.

Sky, the token gay, argued that porn actually helped him build self-confidence after the awkward teen years. And being forced to maintain a certain body has become an act of personal therapy for the young performer. (The industry's new slogan: Porn, it certainly does a body good.)

Next USC will be offering BAAs (Bachelor of Anal Arts). What a university!
