Toronto has been awarded the 2014 World Pride event. It may not be the Olympics, but it promises to be one helluva party; there'll be a fabulous opening ceremony, a human rights conference, networking events, and both Canada Day and U.S. Independence Day parties.

And the vote had Toronto as the clear favorite, beating Stockholm with 78 per cent of the ballots, not surprising considering Toronto's Pride event is one of the biggest in the world. Pride Toronto organizers pointed out that Toronto's Pride Week 2009 brought in $136 million for the city, and 750,000 tourists ( this during one of the toughest recessions in recent memory).

For those unable (or unwilling) to wait that long for a chance to sample men from around the world, London will host World Pride in 2012, just a few weeks before the summer Olympics open in that great city. Hey, it's never too early to start planning a gay-cation!
