Porn at its horniest is a subversive activity. Since it launched in 2002, Dirty Boy Video has taken a wild and woolly approach to gay sex as a lusty, edgy series of encounters between horny alternative boys in weird locations and circumstances on New York City's streets, tiny apartments, subways and rooftops. There are well over 300 videos on the site now, though the overall organization is unfathomable. But it's all there somewhere, and there's an almost giddy enthusiasm and sense of fun everywhere you look.

Tour

The tour at DBV gives you a pretty good idea of what you'll find as a member., though it is not a complete mirror of the inside of the site. There are fourteen preview video clips each accompanied by 10 good-sized photos. It's like these guys could be one of your crazy pals who loves to push the envelope and have hot monkey sex in strange places.

Navigation

Dirtty Boy Video has a crazy, mixed up way of presenting its content. The first page of the members area starts at the top with the "Newest Updates" and the "Latest And Greatest". This showcases the newest videos and pictures just posted to the site, along with the vids and pics from both the original content and the video plug-ins that are on the way. Easy enough.

But then you'll see a cool-looking rotating image gallery named: "Featured Videos". You can click on any of the pics sliding past and go to a page that may have just a video, or it may have a video in an embedded Flash player plus an image gallery, or it may have one of the site's older episode pages that offer the movie as a full length Quicktime vid, or as a series of up to ten short clips but no accompanying pics. This "feature" only underlines the lack of consistency in the navigation, design and format options on the site.

There is no model index and the videos and image sets are mixed in together without a way to readily browse through them. Confusion all around.

The Men and the Action

The dirty boys are mostly slender guys between 18 and 25. They range from cute to average, and from college-type guys to more alternative types with tattoos, piercings, emo hair and cool stubble sculpting. Dirty Boy Video includes several unusual themes such as jerking off in public places like parking garages and stairwells, surveillance cams, frat houses, and doll fuckers. Each theme is pretty well captured. Most of the audition videos where the guy is doing his first shoot include a brief interview and jackoff. More than 80% of the videos are solo, so that means about two of every ten puts guys together in one of the many unusual locations.

Video Details

At review time there were 300 exclusive videos of which about 240 were solos. The site lists about 4 updates per week, but we found that 2 of the 4 most recent "updates" are new video feed updates rather than original content updates.

The videos inside Dirty Boy Video are all single hand-held camera, amateur quality shoots which means that many of them, particularly the older ones, are not as sharp or well-lit as professional shoots. Some of the underground and surveillance videos are shot in rather dark rooms. The most recent, larger, videos are definitely better quality, partly because improved cameras respond well to lower light conditions, though the camera jiggles and sways around more than we like.

The idea of porn that is shot on the fly is a cool idea, and, in the cases where the shoot takes place in an odd, public location under poor conditions it makes sense. The Dirty Boy videographers certainly do have the experience to provide a steadier camera and more conventional angles and they are now doing so -- and the amateur street cred of the site is not harmed at all.

Image and Other Content

Many of the videos are accompanied by image galleries. The photos are medium sized and good quality. There are no slideshows or zip files available and no choice of pic size.

Summing Up

Dirty Boy Video is the closest we've got to a gay "guerilla" porn site; if you like personality-rich, amateur-quality videos of 18 to 25 year-old guys in auditions and unusual settings, it may be a site that speaks to you. But you'll have to also have to buy into an unusual style of camera-work and smaller than average downloads.
