British man found guilty of deliberately infecting men with HIV

Daryll Rowe guilty of infecting men with HIV

Daryll Rowe is an evil man, and luckily he will probably be spending a long time behind bars.

This week, he was found guilty of deliberately infecting Grindr dates with HIV. The 26-year-old, a hairdresser from Edinburgh, met men on Grindr in Brighton, England, and pressured them to have bareback sex; if they refused he sabotaged the condoms.

He would then contact the men following the encounter and taunt them with the news that they could now be HIV+.

He texted one man: "Maybe you have the fever cos I came inside you and I have HIV, lol. Whoops!" He told a second man that he had ripped the condom, and told the victim he was "stupid" for not realizing it. A third person was told by Rowe that "no one will ever love you.”

He successfully infected at least five people but is known to have targeted at least 10 men.

Prosecutors claimed that Rowe started in 2015 when he discovered he had contracted HIV from an ex. He was arrested in February of 2016, and when police searched his possessions, they found a bag of sabotaged condoms.

Rowe, however, denied the charges and claimed he was being framed. "I never had in my mind before, during or after any of the sex that I wanted to pass on HIV to anybody," he said during cross-examination.

It took the jury 18 hours to find Rowe guilty of five counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and five counts of attempted GBH.

"The verdict today is very welcome," said Detective Inspector Andy Wolstenholme. "It will bring some closure to the victims who have been very strong and supportive through the investigation.

"The victims have demonstrated real strength of character in speaking out about this, and because of this strength and the hard work of the detectives, staff and partners working on the case, a dangerous man, who betrayed the trust of many men, will now be imprisoned."

He will be sentenced at a later date. Hopefully he'll never get out to hurt anyone ever again.
