Pulse Nightclub memorial plans revealed

Pulse Memorial

Pulse owner Barbara Poma has released details of the memorial that will be created at the former nightclub's location in Orlando, Florida. It is being dedicated to the 49 people who were killed there in June 2016 when a single gunman opened fire on the mostly queer clientele.

The plans include a permanent memorial and museum. A scholarship will also be established honoring the victims. No word has been given about whether or not the club, itself, will reopen.

"What began as a place for fun and joy is now sacred ground," Poma said at a news conference. "We must never forget the true focus of the project. We will not let hate win."

The onePULSE Foundation will oversee the project, though the actual look of the memorial will be determined by survivors of the massacre, family members of deceased victims and first responders.

The project will take years to complete. The current makeshift memorial will likely remain in place until after the first anniversary of that horrible day.
