UK tabloid exposes nurse's gay porn past, forced to delete article

British tabloid The Sun sunk to a new low this week when it exposed the gay porn past of a newly graduated 23-year-old male nurse. We opted not to name him or the hospital at which he works.

The article's title: "Naughty But Nurse: We reveal a nurse at a top hospital is an ex-porn star who starred in 23 X-rated films during his training."

The tabloid shared the man's name, his porn name, images from his social media profiles (including one of the young man holding up his National HIV Nurses Association certificate), and even secretly took pictures of him outside his home in London. The paper went all out to make sure his secret was shared with the world.

At no point was there any justification for the blatant invasion of privacy, and many angry readers took to the article's comment section to cry foul.

"I would expect the editor to explain the tone and content of the article, and give reason why it could ever possibly be in the public interest," gay activist Peter Tatchell said.

So many people complained that within 36 hours the article was removed from The Sun's website. Still, damage done. The tabloid simply acknowledged an upset readership, but did not offer an apology.

It's sad when the media can be worse than online trolls.
