Elton John is no stranger to the stage, having created the music for such hits as
The Lion King and
Billy Elliot: The Musical.
Well, the hit-maker has teamed up with Paul Rudnick (Jeffrey, In & Out) to write a musical based on the 2006 movie The Devil Wears Prada.
"Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theater is super exciting," John said in a statement. "I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film, and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture."
Prada was first released as a novel, written by Lauren Weisberger, in 2003. Meryl Streep won a Golden Globe Award and earned an Oscar nomination for her role in the movie based on the book.
The story follows a young journalist who reluctantly takes a job as the assistant to Miranda Priestly. Priestly is the tough-as-nails editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway. The book is a fictionalized account of Weisberger’s time at Vogue working for editor Anna Wintour.
With John at the helm, the show will probably be a huge bitchin' success.
